Tonight, I made this:

Which was my own simplified attempt at this:

I think I did pretty well. The key to my success was replacing this (notably delicious sounding) dough recipe. I used the usual Pillsbury Refrigerator Pie Crust, and used some creative judgment on the filling recipe. The recipe above was the base, but I added extra parm to taste, added some bread crumbs to the filling mix, and mixed in some garlic salt. These guys are headed to a work potluck, so I can't test them tonight :'(, but I'm fairly confident that I have found an easy, fantastically presentable party dish.

Summertime for Salads

Summertime is the perfect time for salads. Fresh, clean and more hydrating than a plate of fries, I love to add new ingredients to the standard plate of lettuce. Now, don't get me wrong, I love fries. Love. I have a distinct weakness for potatoes in any form. I swing wildly from needing a burger and fries more than anything, to days of fresh vegetables and some fruit. Today was a nice light vegetable day.

First, roasted portobellos. Then, French's onions for a little crisp and salt. Chopped chicken and roma tomatoes. I favor the roma tomatoes because they are less juicy, and therefore perfect for topping off a salad. I used thousand island dressing in this instance, but I am an absolute sucker for Brianna's Poppy Seed Dressing. What kinds of things do you add to your salads? I'm looking for some new ideas to keep this summer fresh and light.

Food, Wine and War

Occasionally, my boyfriend and I war. He loves it, and I am improving steadily. When I say we "war", I mean that we play Axis and Allies. It's a pretty entertaining way to spend a day on the floor of your living room. However, you will need to gather some real world supplies.

We decided to get fancy this weekend, with a bottle of red, a bottle of white, grapes, cheese, crackers, hummus and a nice loaf of french bread. After this little snack break, we resumed... and I won for the first time! I was playing as the bad guys, so I'm not sure what that says, but I'm just going to take the win this time around. Time to figure out which game time snacks to have next time around.
